Typical products of Gargano, what they are and how to find them
Gargano
“The spur of Italy” is the most diverse part of Puglia in terms of scenery: surrounded by the Adriatic Sea on three sides, it is characterized by large forests, mountainous landscapes, large sandy beaches, white cliffs overlooking the sea, sea caves, and villages with breathtaking views of the sea.
Visitors cannot miss two UNESCO sites: Monte Sant'Angelo, a village 843 meters above sea level with a breathtaking view, and the Umbra Forest, a protected natural reserve rich in biodiversity. There are numerous coastal villages, such as Rodi, Vieste, and Peschici with its characteristic fishing constructions made of wood in the sea.
But there is also Manfredonia, rich in culture and founded in 1256 near Siponto, a Daunian city and today the site of one of the most important works of art in the country, the reconstruction of the ancient paleo-Christian basilica by the artist Edoardo Tresoldi.
Among the most visited sites by the millions of tourists who pass through Gargano are Baia delle Zagare, Vignanotica, Cala della Pergola, Pugnochiuso, Baia dei Campi, all beaches and coves that leave you in awe.
And then there is the almost pristine beauty of the Tremiti islands.
